After years of housing development being forced upon residents in the St Nicolas ward, local residents will finally be able to get an upgrade to Buttermere Park which will be funded by money paid by developers.
Using section 106 money that house builders have to pay to offset the harm caused by developments, the park will get a complete refurbishment. Most of the equipment was originally installed with the original St Nicolas Park estate and is now due to be upgraded.
The plan will see new equipment, improved footpaths and other enhancements to the natural environment. Also included in the plans are accessible play equipment for children who have physical disabilities. This will let them enjoy the great new surroundings that will be created around them.
Cllr Julian Gutteridge, Cabinet Member for Health and Environment, has been leading on the plans and following amendments after a round consultation is looking forward to seeing the park being delivered over the coming months.
I am incredibly proud of this project; the facilities we aim to provide will be first class. Not only will we be able to bring new play equipment and pathways to the park, but also beautiful new surroundings with more trees and wild flowers.
