With funding from the government under the Towns Fund, and forming part of the wider Transforming Nuneaton plans, upgrades to the Nuneaton Museum and Art Gallery have been passed by the local planning team meaning work can progress on the project.
Two first-floor extensions will enable more of the collections to be displayed to the public, a new cafe area and meeting room will expand usage by local residents and many outdated facilities will be replaced.
Plans include improvements to the George Eliot and local history displays, and a new exhibition about the history of the museum itself. The design will also make the best use of the fantastic views out over the River Anker and Riversley Park.
Cllr Sue Markham, Cabinet Member for Public Services, said:
“This is a great step forward for the museum transformation, the plans are so exciting, and I can’t wait to watch the next step in this journey.
“The developments will bring even more audience engagement, an enhanced exhibition offering and brand-new facilities which will add to a wonderful visitor experience at our already beloved museum.”
