A property in Kingswood Road has been repossessed after a length court process arising out of high levels of rent arrears.
With a shortage of housing stock across our Borough, it is important that we pro-actively manage our properties so that we can house those on the waiting list and help those most in need.
We will always try and help those in need, but Conservatives will ensure that responsibility is taken by tenants for their obligations to the Council and the taxpayer. Rent arrears are a burden to the local council and mean that we cannot rehome families as quickly as we would like.
The action taken by the Conservative Council means that a three bedroom house can now be used by a family that has been waiting on the list.
Cllr Clare Golby, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing, said:
Eviction is always a last resort but in this case it was necessary.
I would like to reassure people that if any of our tenants are experiencing financial issues and paying rent is becoming a problem don’t ignore it. Get in touch with our housing team, we can help.
Through our landlord services We can also offer advice or help to people in the private rented sector too.
The earlier you ask for help the more chance there is of a good outcome.
