As part of the Emergency Budget passed in June, the newly-elected Conservative council voted through a package of economic stimulus measures designed to help our town centres, markets and businesses as we emerge from the worst impacts of the Covid pandemic.
During the Christmas period and into the New Year, residents will be able to park free of charge in any council-owned car park across the Borough. This delivers on our manifesto promise made during the election and will help business and traders make the most of the festive season.
Cllr Kris Wilson, Leader of the Council, said:
“This is great news, following the impact that Covid-19 has had on town centre trade, this move hopes to bring more footfall into our town centres as well as give a helping hand to businesses, shoppers and visitors. The new administration promised at the outset that we would make parking free in December and January this year as part of our economic plan to help with the Covid recovery, and we have delivered on that promise.
“I would ask all local residents to please take advantage of the scheme and shop local where possible to help boost our local economy. Our markets and businesses have been hard hit during the pandemic. As a community we need to do all we can to help them come through this crisis out the other side and remain with us for years to come.”
