With the sad news of the passing of The Queen, a national period of mourning has begun and events commemorating her life and the accession of King Charles III will take place across Nuneaton and Bedworth.
Cllr Kris Wilson, Leader of the Council, spoke on behalf of the Borough following the news of the death of The Queen:
Whilst we all knew that this moment would eventually come, it still does not make this news any easier. HM Queen Elizabeth II – the Grandmother of the Nation – has sadly passed away. Her loyalty and service to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth has no parallel, and she performed her duties literally right up to the end. Many residents across our Borough, and across the world, are in shock and mourning as we see the end of the great modern Elizabethan Age.
But, behind all of this, there is still a grieving family. Whilst duties will no doubt continue, tonight people are mourning the loss of a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. On a human level, we must all recognise this too and my thoughts and best wishes go out to the Royal Family at this time.
