Despite the previous Labour administration always refusing to be reviewed, the new Conservative team at the Town Hall have called in the Local Government Association (LGA) to review the Borough Council.
Conservatives have called in the Peer Review team since taking control after the elections, which will feature experienced councillors and senior officers from around the country.
The LGA Team will visit Nuneaton and Bedworth the week commencing 20 September 2021 and will meet staff and councillors, as well as local businesses and other organisations to help review how the Council works. A report will then be prepared containing recommendations for future actions for the Council to consider.
New Leader of the Council, Cllr Kris Wilson, welcomed the upcoming review:
“Our focus is that this Council concentrates all its energy on improving lives for people in the Borough, whether they live, work or visit Nuneaton and Bedworth. Yes, we need to celebrate our successes, but we need to always be striving to find where we can do better for the residents we serve.
“That includes standing up for the Nuneaton and Bedworth community locally, regionally and nationally, and ensuring our own services are the best they can be. This review is an important step in the new Conservative administration identifying existing good practice in this Council, as well as areas for improvement.
“Whilst the previous Labour administration always refused to have a Peer Review, this new Conservative administration looks forward to having open and constructive discussions with officers of the Council and the review team about the best way forward for this Council, and value the time and input that everyone gives to this process.
“The Peer Review team’s report will be reported to Cabinet in due course, and we look forward to getting to work on any recommendations they might bring forward.
“Bringing in the LGA Peer Review is more evidence that under the Conservatives there is a new broom going through the Council and that we are putting the people of Nuneaton and Bedworth first in our mission to unlock our Borough’s potential.”
