After years of illegal-dumping in the River Anker and spoiling the landscape throughout the Town Centre, a new Riverbank Clearance Team have been out on the river and cleaning up the rubbish dumped along the water course.
The new team have started by ASDA and worked their way down towards the Town Hall so far. Once the Anker has been cleaned up it is planned for them to visit other sites in the Borough throughout the rest of the year.
They have cleared away traffic cones, scaffolding and bikes as well as removing overgrown vegetation.
Cllr Kyle Evans, Portfolio Holder for Public Services, said:
βItβs been great to see the team in action. They have already made great progress, with several large items being recovered and overgrown vegetation cut back.
"So far they have cleared approximately 4.5 tonnes of rubbish and by the time the section is complete it will probably be nearer 8-10 tonnes. The river is looking much cleaner, wildlife can now thrive, and residents can enjoy its natural beauty.β
